There are many myths that surround pit bulls and pit bull type dogs at no fault of their own. These dogs are stereotyped, abused, abandoned, neglected and surrendered every day. Every year 1.2 million dogs are euthanized, approximately 40% of whom are Pit Bulls. That is almost half a million pit bull type dogs are killed in the shelter every year solely because of the way they look and due to over overcrowding. It is our goal to bring communities together by leadership, education, community involvement, awareness and rescue of pit bull type dogs. Dolly is the first pit bull our president rescued. With Dolly, he was able to learn about this amazing breed and all the love they have to offer. This is the dog that dispelled all myths and taught him the importance of adoption. Because of Dolly we strive to continue to save dogs like her. Dolly's Dream was created to rescue, rehome, and one day help restore the image of all bully breed type dogs. We partner with local rescue, shelters and humane societies to fulfill our commitment to these innocent and loving animals.
Spay/Neuter Voucher Program
Launch a free spay/neuter program for owned pit bull breeds residing in Palm Beach and Broward County. Program will target “hot spots” in Palm Beach County from which significant numbers of square headed dogs are being relinquished to shelters.
Working with other rescues
Humane societies will work with their local county shelters to initiate an incentive program that encourages local rescues to take “square headed” dogs for the purpose of placing them into permanent homes.
Medical Fund
Each year hundreds of dogs are euthanized at country shelters for medical issues that are treatable. This project will save the lives of treatable and adoptable dogs that otherwise would be euthanized.
Surrender Prevention
A surrender prevention program that helps pet owners find alternatives for their pet rather than surrender into the shelter environment. It can be used for medical care, surgical procedures, dental procedures, behavior training, rent deposit, and food.
Dog Insurance
Establish a program to provide six months of health insurance for “square headed” dogs that are adopted.
